"Tale as Old as Time" New for Young Viewers

Wed, Jul 01, 2009

"It's a tale as old as time," but for a crowd of anticipating Johnson County foster children it was heard for the first time when the Greater Cleburne Carnegie Players presented Disney's Beauty and the Beast on the stage of Cleburne High School's Don Smith Performing Arts Center, Thursday, June 18.

The Carnegie Players graciously performed the smash Broadway musical based on the 1991 animated film as a gift to Johnson County Court Appointed Special Advocates.  All proceeds raised from the Players final dress rehearsal will be used to train and support the CASA volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children of Johnson County.

The Players' largest audience to date was mesmerized by as the lavishly dressed performers worked their magic to bring the timeless tale of Belle, her Beast, and his enchanted palace to life.  Following the curtain call, a reception was held in the theater lobby featuring refreshments, photo opportunities, and cast autographs.

"The joy, applause, and the laughter that came from the young audience was such that I had never witnessed," said CASA of Johnson County Board President, Kay Walls.  "When I stopped to think that the majority of these children had never before had the opportunity to experience a theatrical performance, I am convinced that a star will be born out of that very night."

CASA appreciates all of the support we have received from the Carnegie Players and the entire community. With everyone's help, we will continue to speak out in court proceedings for abused and neglected children.  Don't miss out on an opportunity to play an influential role in helping Johnson County's children find forever homes.
